About Labioplasty
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Labioplasty?
Labioplasty surgery; It is the shortening and reduction of the sagging, long, irregular and darkened inner lips (labia minor) by cutting them. This condition, which is mostly congenital, can increase during puberty, birth or hormonal changes and disturb women both physically and psychologically.
Labiaplasty surgery, which ranks first among genital aesthetic surgeries, is among the modern gynecological aesthetic operations; It is applied by experienced physicians in many countries, especially the USA and European countries, for both functional and cosmetic reasons.
The number of labiaplasty surgeries is increasing day by day worldwide.
What does Labioplasty mean?
Labioplasty is a genital aesthetic surgery performed to give a smooth and aesthetic appearance to the inner lips, called “labium”.
Labiaplasty, which is a surgery to shorten and reduce the inner lips, is also called “labia minora aesthetics”, “labia minoraplasty” or “labia minora reduction”.
What is Female Genital Anatomy?
External genital organs in women include mons pubis (pubic mound), labium majus (large lip), labium minus (small lip), clitoris and vestibulum.
The small lips located in the inner part of the external genital area are called “labium minus” (inner lip), and the large lips located on the outside with a slight bump on them are called “labium majus” (outer lip). The upper lips are hairless, while the outer lips are covered with genital hair.
Mons pubis is the fatty, hairy area on the pubic bone. In general, the hairless, pink, excitable structure within the labia majora is the inner lips.
The clitoris is the pleasure organ of women that consists of 3 parts in the shape of a ‘Y’ at the upper junction of the labia minora and can be stimulated (erogenous). The counterpart of the penis in men is the clitoris in women.
What does sagging inner lip mean?
Elongation, sagging, thickening or irregularity of the inner lips in the female external genital area is known as “labial hypertrophy”. This condition is also known as ‘inner lip prolapse’, ‘vaginal tongue prolapse’ and ‘tongue prolapse’. Most women have both labial hypertrophy, that is, sagging, and labial asymmetry, that is, irregularity.
Why is Labioplasty Necessary?
Labioplasty is often deemed necessary due to labial hypertrophy. This sagging of the inner lips causes both physical and psychological complaints in women and is the most common reason for surgery. In addition, loss of self-confidence in sexuality, inability to enjoy or establish a partner relationship are among the most common reasons for applying to us.
The appearance of the inner lips as sagging, wrinkled, dark and asymmetrical causes many functional as well as aesthetic problems in women. For these reasons, labiaplasty leaves positive effects in psychological, cosmetic, hygienic, sexual and functional aspects.
What is Clitoris Aesthetics?
The clitoris area is the area formed by the union of both inner lips at the top. With labial hypertrophy, the clitoral hood area is generally covered with wide and sagging skin. It is possible to achieve ideal results with ‘clitoral hudoplasty’ performed simultaneously with labiaplasty.
Additionally, after removing excess skin on the clitoris, sexual pleasure may increase. Clitoral hudoplasty is a special surgery due to its anatomical location and function and must be performed by experienced hands. Otherwise, undesirable results may occur.
Who Should Have Labioplasty?
People with inner lip hypertrophy generally have some of the following problems and are recommended to undergo surgery. These problems;
- Lack of self-confidence, self-dislike
- Pain during sexual intercourse and inability to have intercourse
- Inability to enjoy sexual intercourse (especially if the clitoris is covered with too much skin)
- Continuous irritation and sensitivity in the external genitalia
- Recurrent vaginal infection
- Vaginal odor and hygiene problems
- Friction and pain when wearing tight trousers and underwear
- Excessive appearance of the genital area when wearing tights and bikinis
- Problems in finding a partner, relationship problems
Can Labiaplasty be Performed on Virgins?
Labioplasty surgery can be performed on virgins. Surgery performed on the outer labia minora does not cause any damage to the inner hymen. In the following period, it is not a surgery that prevents sexual intercourse or getting pregnant or giving birth normally.
How is Labioplasty Done?
Labioplasty is an operation performed to aesthetically correct the inner lips by cutting them. It can be performed under local anesthesia, general anesthesia or spinal anesthesia in a hospital or in a suitable clinical environment. This operation, which takes approximately 1 hour, is preferred by patients as it can be performed as a daily intervention in a clinic environment, especially under local anesthesia.
Who Performs Labioplasty Surgery?
In order to avoid problems after labiaplasty surgery and to avoid the need for another surgery, i.e. revision surgery, the physician who will perform this surgery must be knowledgeable and experienced in this field.
Additionally, ACOG (American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology) published a new bulletin on elective female genital cosmetic surgery in January 2020. In this bulletin, it is emphasized that sexual dysfunctions (problems) can be corrected by genital surgeries, but the importance of the physician who will perform the operation to be educated about sexual dysfunctions and psychiatric disorders is emphasized.
What is the Most Successful Surgical Technique in Labioplasty?
Many surgical techniques have been described in labiaplasty. However, the most commonly used and successful surgical techniques are partial resection (trimming) and V plasty. Of course, it should not be forgotten that the most successful technique will be chosen according to the person’s examination findings.
How Did Large Lip Fillers Become Popular Along with Labioplasty?
Large lip fat fillings have become popular due to the desire to have only a line in the middle of the external genital area after labiaplasty. These operations, which were first performed in California, quickly spread all over the world. The aim is for the inner lips to be as short as possible and to be completely contained within the outer lips. When viewed from the outside, only the ‘Venus line’, which is a thin, straight, sexy line, is targeted.
This type of vaginal aesthetic surgery includes labiaplasty, clitoral hudoplasty and labia majora fat filling or hyaluronic acid filling procedures. The aim is to provide a structure where a single thin line appears in the middle.
What If We Want the Natural Vaginal Look?
Nowadays, while aesthetic operations are increasing, the search for natural ones continues rapidly. There are many people who want to have a more natural, cleaner and straighter appearance. In response to these requests, a ‘natural vagina appearance’ can be achieved without shortening the inner lips too much. This appearance is also known as ‘hybrid vagina’. In these operations, a small amount of tissue is removed from the inner lips and the natural appearance is preserved.
What Changes After Labioplasty?
Many positive changes occur in the person’s life after labiaplasty. It has medical, hygienic and functional benefits when applied with the correct technique. The satisfaction rate of patients is very high in both daily life and sexual life.
What is the Tip of Labioplasty Operation?
The trick of the labiaplasty operation is the simultaneous ‘clitoral hoodoplasty’ surgery. It is the removal of excess tissue on the clitoris. If this tissue is not removed properly, a ‘penis appearance’ occurs. For this reason, in most operations, the area above the clitoris must also be thinned.
