Hymen About HYMEN
Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the Hymen?
Hymen; It is a piece of skin approximately 2-3 cm inside the entrance of the vaginal canal. It appears as a ring structure with a hollow center on the edge. It is a membrane with a soft consistency, usually 1.5-2 mm thick.
How to Destroy the Hymen?
The hymen loses its integrity during the first sexual intercourse, when a finger or a foreign object is inserted into the vagina. Contrary to popular belief, when the hymen breaks down, it does not disappear completely, only permanent openings occur in the membrane wall. This appearance is called damaged hymen.
How is Hymen Examined?
Hymen examination; It is a simple examination that takes a few seconds and is performed only with the eyes, without using any tools. On the gynecological table, both inner lips are opened and the integrity of the membrane is checked. Hymen examination can be a forensic examination. It must be recorded, especially in cases referred to the prosecutor’s office. However, only people with suspicion can be examined with their own consent. Hymen examination is not recorded in private clinics.
How to understand whether the hymen is damaged or not?
The hymen is often disrupted when an object is inserted into the vagina. In rare cases, it can be disrupted by external friction or masturbation. Sometimes it can be damaged as a result of trauma. Disruption of the hymen manifests itself with spotting, bleeding or pain. With a simple gynecological examination for those in doubt, it can be understood whether the hymen is broken or not. This special gynecological examination is given different names such as “hymen examination”, “virginity control” or “virginity examination”.
What is Hymen Dehiscence?
Suturing the hymen is to ensure the integrity of the hymen by using some surgical techniques applied to the parts of the hymen at the entrance of the vagina. It is medically called ‘Hymenoplasty’. Additionally, hymenoplasty is a type of genital aesthetic surgery.
Why is the Hymen Repaired?
Hymenoplasty is generally applied to people who have had their first sexual intercourse without their consent. In addition, the hymen damaged after genital trauma can also be repaired. It is preferred by girls who have had their first relationship against their will or who regret their relationship later, to forget the past and make a new start.
What is the Purpose of Hymen Repair?
After hymen repair, the aim is to show the symbol of virginity by bleeding more or less during the first sexual intercourse. This condition, which is often not noticed during sexual intercourse, can be understood with a simple gynecologist examination.
How is Hymen Removal Done?
Hymenoplasty is done in two ways: Long-term (permanent suture) and Short-term repairs (Temporary suture).
1. Long-term hymen transplantation (permanent hymen): It is preferred in cases where there is no sexual intercourse planned in the near future. Long-term hymen repairs can be in the form of flap operations, primary repair with microsurgery, and primary repair with vaginal tightening.
The most preferred method for long-term hymen transplantation is known as the “flap method”. In this method, a piece of tissue removed from the lower wall of the vagina is stitched to the side wall of the vagina as the hymen. With this piece of tissue, the vaginal entrance narrows and during sexual intercourse, the newly created hymen opens and blood comes out.
Hymenoplasty with microsurgery is another permanent hymen repair operation.
This procedure can be performed on hymens that are not excessively damaged. The ends of the remaining parts of the hymen are first opened with scissors, and then the opposite ends are brought together again using the microsurgical method. In this way, permanent hymen repair (hymen stitching) is achieved. This is an advantage over other methods as it is often not possible to detect that the hymen has been stitched during a routine gynecological examination. This method should be applied by experienced people.
Vaginal tightening and hymen repair are generally among the genital aesthetic operations. In particular, many sexual intercourses, miscarriages, abortions and postpartum vaginal tightening surgeries are performed using the microsurgery method.
- Short-term hymen transplantation (temporary hymen): Short-term hymen transplantation is performed in cases where sexual intercourse will occur within 1 week. In short-term hymen repair, stitches are placed on the remaining hymen pieces at the entrance of the vagina, narrowing the opening of the vagina and ensuring bleeding during the first intercourse. This procedure, also called short-term hymen repair, is usually performed under local anesthesia and takes an average of 5-10 minutes.
What are the chances of success after hymen removal?
The chance of success after hymenoplasty varies depending on the method chosen, the surgeon’s experience and the patient’s tissue. In cases where these three factors are complete, the chance of success after hymen transplantation is close to 100%.
In order to make surgical success permanent, there are rules that must be taken into consideration after planting. These rules;
- Clean wound care and personal hygiene
- Regular use of prescribed medications
- Avoiding contact with hot water for the first week
- Avoiding tight clothing for the first week
- Avoiding heavy work for the first month
What are the Prices of Hymen Repair?
Hymen repair prices vary depending on the surgical technique to be performed, the materials to be used, the type of anesthesia and the center where it will be performed. In addition, genital aesthetic operations and cosmetic gynecology applications performed simultaneously with hymen repair also change the hymen repair fees.
