Laser Genital Discoloration

WHY DOES THE GENITAL AREA DARKEN?

The genital area changes color depending on genetic and environmental factors. These are the reasons;

  • Exposure to ultraviolet rays, solarium
  • Chronic diseases and drug use
  • Birth control pills
  • Hormone disorders and PCOS
  • Postinflammatory hyperpigmentation
  • Hot waxing and laser hair removal,
  • Smoking and poor collagen structure

TO WHOM IS GENITAL AREA DECOLORIZATION TREATMENT PERFORMED?

If there is a loss of self-confidence in people with genital and perianal area discoloration, genital area lightening treatment is recommended. Even just being uncomfortable with the appearance is a reason to do these treatments. For these reasons, in recent years, ano-genital area bleaching procedures have been performed rapidly in women and, more rarely, in men.

HOW ARE LASER GENITAL AREA DECOLORIZATION TREATMENTS PERFORMED?

CO2 laser, Er:YAG laser and Q-switched lasers are frequently used in laser genital area lightening treatments. Color lightening occurs due to the heat effect generated by the fractional head of Er:YAG or CO2 lasers. In this ablation effect, the epidermis layer of the skin is peeled off. Q-switched lasers, on the other hand, act on the melanin area secreted by melanocytes in the deeper, basal layer of the skin to lighten the color. With these effects, it is also used for tattoo removal, Café-au lait spots, birthmarks, melasma, freckles, age spots treatments.

LASER GENITAL AREA DECOLORIZATION PRICES

Laser decolorization prices vary according to the width of the area, the degree of darkness and extra applications to be made.

LASER DECOLORIZATION TREATMENT

Before laser decolorization, the energy and density doses of the laser are adjusted according to the patient’s skin color. Those with darker skin have a higher risk of burns, scar tissue formation and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Therefore, adjusting the dose parameter according to the patient is the first step.

Secondly, the procedure area should be shaved and local anesthetic cream should be applied.

The average procedure time is 5-10 minutes. Sessions can be done 2-3 times in total, once every 4-6 weeks.

Finally, it should be known that the skin becomes darker and begins to peel the next day after the color lightening process with carbon dioxide or erbium laser. The newly emerging vibrant, bright and pink skin texture will provide the desired young and healthy appearance.

Each patient should be informed before the procedure that the targeted color lightening in bleaching treatments will be around 30-35%.

THINGS TO CONSIDER AFTER LASER DECOLORIZATION

It is normal to have regional complaints such as burning, itching, stinging and pins and needles after the laser procedure. Topical anesthetics, cortisone-containing creams and scatrizans to be given after the procedure will make this process more comfortable.

No serious restrictions are given after laser decolorization. Sexual intercourse is free. The next day you can shower and wash the genital area. If necessary, paracetamol group drugs can be used for pain relief.

Targeted results are seen on average 1 month after the procedure. A single session may be sufficient, or in some cases, 2-4 sessions can be performed every 1-2 months. The most important factor to be considered after laser bleaching is protection from the sun. For this reason, it is generally better not to perform the procedure during the summer months.
